On the Title & the Text
by Jasper of Salamonia
There is a reason that I have been drawn to illustrate this document with a small addition of my own. It is because after having fallen into my hands prior to my return to the City, where the invention of the mechanical Printing Press has enabled mass production of many exotic manuscripts for the better education of all intelligent life forms living in the world. It has been my good benefit to stem from the City Salamonis famed for her Great Library. Therefore the resource to research terminology proper becomes apparent and justly determined.
Nobody knows for certain who named this compilation of associated documents which now forms an outline thesis for a particular formal school of chaotic magickal ritual. A generally educated reader immediately assumes the name to mean something along the way of ‘Full of Malevolence”. While this may be so in describing the content of the tome, it is incorrectly interpreted as such. That the title should have both that level of warning to the casual observer while remaining only partially descriptive as deeper analysis reveals. That it is therefore misleading and yet at the same time accurate depending upon the level of insight brought to it in interpretation by the reader is in keeping with the tomes obscure personality of duality-as-one. It is both an antonym and a synonym at once!
Ma:
-Contemporary; Feminine principle, Yin (passive, yielding).
-Ancient; Make, Mother, Manifest. Active and Decisive. Creative and Physical.
Le:
Ley; to/the spread, flow-lines, a situation as it is. Established directive.
Male: Masculine principle, Yang (assertive, dominant).
Vo:
see Va; make path, cut channel. Vo is with reference to whole journey.
La:
see Le; ‘ah’ refers to unset, undecided, changeable. ‘it is up in the air’.
Vola: a colloquial word meaning “palm” (of the hand or foot).
Lev:
old etynym for Lib as in Library. See; Level.
Effulgent means literally “Radiant” “Brightness” “Shining” however it also means “Blank” and “Burn” so it has a connotation of Cleansing, Purification.
Genia means ‘genus’ although refer also to ‘genesis’ as in ‘creation of’.
There is a subtext here also for the researcher of ancient Ak’s blocky phraseology in that Ge and Nia mean Earthen and Night Sky.
Therefore the contexts involved in this title are in basic terms:
Yang Hand Radiant Creation
In context of the Black Hand, an compound eponym for the brilliant palm that is the white core of the Yang symbol, surrounded by darkness; a Star that generates Night; a darkness of cleansing. The notion of a black phoenix is suggested which very much relates to the bound daemon Nihiliquis contained within the covers.

Chronology of the Malevola Effulgenia
By Marcus of Salamonia
Having spent considerable long hours deep into the night pouring through the manuscripts comprising this book, as has become my obsession, I believe myself along with Jasper of Salamoniathe academic authority on the matter. I make no pretensions that I have had no training in the magickal arts. Therefore I consider its effects upon me due to the allure of its content to be psychological and philosophical and rather than arcane. In this I attempt to bring a voice of logic and structure upon a chaotic entity.
However I have been used by the tome, of that I am certain, in bringing about mass reproduction of the entirety of its content. It therefore falls upon myself to imprint what order I can upon the device. I have constructed the following chronology of its content, for the order in which it was written is not the given order of the chapters.
This, I believe to be its plan and a part of its power. It is writing itself through its many servants, who fall into the format it generates. Their, and I should accept and myself amongst them; Our lives and location in time is not necessarily linear for the completion of the work and its agenda. My own role has been to bring it to the awareness of many different individuals who now serve its purpose and no doubt, as myself, have found it relevant to insert additional texts into the main body of the work.
The chronology is necessary that the reader may witness the folding and changing of its focus and its purpose, through the generations.
Volgera Darkstorm was the mentor of Zharradan Marr, Zanbar Bone and Balthus Dire, all of whom have added pages to the spine and one of whom (unknown) sought out Aeren Tintathel prior to the work falling into the hands of Xortan Throg, whose specific wisdom inspired Kai Tigo. Sila Silvercats addition occurred prior to my own, I believe necessary considering the alternative.
I have reason to believe that Razaak was a student of Zanbar Bone, due to the similarity of their rituals; therefore it would be logical that his writing is worthy of inclusion. The discovery of his grimoire is the next pursuit of my colleague Jasper. I have been invited along on the expedition.
From here, I cannot imagine what further developments may emerge.
Such is the nature of Chaos.
