K is for Kult
Beyond the Veil
Kult is the darkest and most esoteric role-playing game I know of.
Where Cthulhu pitted detectives, scholars and journalists against unimaginable timeless alien god-like monsters worshipped by covens of cultists and the occasional possessed sorcerer; Kult pitted possessed prostitutes, psycho-serial-killers and burnt-out diabolists against their own inner demons, which turns out to be the magickal gates utilized by unimaginable timeless extra-dimensional god-like monsters.
It made White Wolf's Vampire's look like a bunch of wilted roses. It all would have been alright if this stuff hadn't turned out to be so real. In defense the best I could muster was Amerindian inspired training from Werewolf; defending Gaia against the Wyrm.
All of this melded together as my basic background understanding for How The Magickal Universe Works.
I was seventeen when I closed these books and went to university to study Art, architecture, art history and philosophy, the psychology of art, specializing in Primitivism inspired by African fetish idols, and the 20th century Abstract Impressionism movement they inspired as it exploded into industrialism. This formal academic education to BA (hons) degree level was a front for my involvement with practicing city street sorcerers, shaman, spiritualism and voodoo.
Perception works on many levels. This is why we teach to follow Instinct over Mind. Thankfully the majority of tv media programmed zomba who are vaguely aware of my background cannot deal with it and pretend it doesn't exist.
I focused all of my energies into the study of Yaqui Shamanism from the books of Carlos Castaneda which made more sense of my non-ordinary-reality experiences than anything, despite their ulterior motive of configuring practitioners capable for energy exchange with more powerful mentors and allies (see; G is for Gods-Walk-Amongst-Man). The conclusion is that the subconscious mind projects symbolism-based sanity-preserving contextualization grids onto reality, for orientation; and that when we are empowered, reality affirms these preconceptions. Which is why There Is A War On For Your Mind. I quit drug cults and got on the internet.
A central theme in Kult, which is based on the Kabala, as with the Cthulhu mythos which is based on the Hermetic secrets of Egyptian Freemasonry, is that Reality is a prison construct controlled by manipulation and blocking of our perceptions. It is a good thing that we do have such a tiny vision because were we to see Reality exposed without our filter system, we would go insane. It is a common theme.
Humans are very powerful entities however that power is jealously tapped and we are unaware of our full potential. A few individuals find methods to increase their power, usually this is related to heir having a slightly bit more wider perception than most of the other humans around them. The power in question is of course the power to affect Reality.
Various rituals exist to make minor modifications to lesser realms of daily life, and religions form around these, usually discarding the effective rituals in favor of mass mind control because by then the priests have become enslaved to their own situations. The entities that capitalize on these are the extra-dimensional deities that are too big for us to imagine. We call these Archons.
